According to the action filed in the Federal Court of Santa Catarina by lawyer Paulo Farias, on behalf of Arlene Graf, the manufacturers and those responsible in Brazil (AstraZeneca and Fiocruz) for the vaccine applied to Bruno were aware of the risk of adverse actions, and that one of them led to his death after a hemorrhagic stroke.
Neither Bruno nor his parents knew about this risk. The Ministry of Health became aware of the risks of thrombocytopenia in February 2021, according to technical note 933/21, and ordered the manufacturer, on 6/22/2021, to include it in the package leaflet, according to the petition – which cites the Code of Consumer Protection: “The supplier of products and services that, after their introduction in the consumer market, becomes aware of the dangerousness they present, must immediately communicate the fact to the competent authorities and consumers, through advertising.” Arlene Graf’s defense also requests that the documents contained in the lawsuit be sent to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (which are confidential) to investigate negligence and medical malpractice in Bruno’s death.
According to the petition, the blood tests carried out on the morning of 8/23, about 36 hours before the stroke, already indicated high CRP and a lower platelet count, with indications of thrombosis. A technical note from the Ministry of Health advises on the application of immunoglobulin and anticoagulants in this condition, which, according to the defense, was not done by the medical team at Hospital Santa Catarina.
